Savage
Garden's songs are of innocence and urgency. On the Australian pop
duo's second album, Affirmation, love is either a broken thing or
a newly exploding one, passion and obsession taking over after a spin
on the dance floor. At the same time, when Darren Hayes and Daniel
Jones proclaim that they want to "live like animals," they're not
planning anything too raw, too Reznorish: they just want that childlike
lack of guile. This approach, taken with a total lack of irony and
with large doses of appealing melodicism, led to multiplatinum sales
for the act's debut, and there's no reason to think that Affirmation
won't be similarly accepted. Sometimes a bit too goodhearted for its
own good--the title track's wide-eyed sentiments might make even Stuart
Smalley smirk--the disc's best moments are hard to dislike when taken
on their own terms. -- Rickey Wright

and not without a reason. The songs were well written and the melodies
are beautiful. Don't miss it. "
As these two boys from Brisbane, Australia, know, it doesn't hurt
to be endorsed by Rosie O'Donnell. When the Queen of Nice sang the
words to "I Want You" and the praises of the duo behind it, the song
catapulted up the charts. Largely ignored by the serious music press,
Savage Garden have cultivated a vast fan base on the strength of their
music--and airplay--alone. As formulaic as it may appear, the ballad
"Truly Madly Deeply" was lodged at No. 1 for week after week for a
reason--it's damn catchy and a welcome reprieve from overdone rock
ballads. Lead singer Darren Hayes lends the same yearning vocal style
to the third--and best--single from the album, "To the Moon & Back,"
a slice of synth-pop genius that culminates in a dramatic crescendo
of strings, courtesy of coleader Daniel Jones. --Rebecca Wallwork

This song follows on from the tradition of "truly, madly, deeply".
A beautiful, haunting ballad about inevitable love, it mesmerises
you. Darren Hayes's voice goes from strength to strength and is a
major reason why this song is already in the top ten after only a
short chart life. BUY IT! "

is helpless. You simply gotta have this. But why? Because it has an
exclusive live version of Santa Monica that you would only find in
the rarest of the rare European Tears of Pearls single. And you have
this one here right in front of your eyes. And it rocks. Added to
the melancholy of the song we have the upbeat mixed version and the
rare live version. So... I guess you gotta have it! "

Reviewer: Liz, from North Carolina, USA. " I gave
savage garden 5 stars, i would have gave them 1,000 if i could.
Savage Garden is the best band to ever walk the face of the earth.
this video is great for a number of reasons. first, savage garden
has a great way with words, the lyrics are sensational. second,
Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones are 2 of the most beautiful guys on
earth. third, the video they have is awesome. the futuristic background
in I Want You. (or thats what i think) in To The Moon and Back i
love the darkness of the video and i wish i could be the chinese/japanese
woman in the subway that darren is singing in her ear. in Truly
Madly Deely, i ABSOLUTLY LOVE Paris. that was a great place to shoot
the video for TMD. it just does something to me that i cant explain.
its just sensational. Break Me, Shake Me, i LOVE the way they show
the concerts right before they sing "Break Me, Shake Me". and Tears
Of Pearls is great! i love darren's cyber coat. i like the concert
views. i love darren's actions in that video too, like the way he
dances and moves around the stage and other things. if you havent
been to a concert, you should go when they are touring again. the
concert i went to was GREAT! "
